I confess: This is a little shameless boasting. BUT some photos I took last Christmas in the Kalihi neighborhood of Honolulu got picked up in this month’s One Magazine. As it’s been almost a year and I was quite pleased with the outcome, I thought I’d share them with you now.
Any of you familiar with Honolulu will know that Kalihi is hardly the first place that comes to mind when thinking of a fashion shoot. It’s gritty and rundown in parts, but it is a neighborhood that still has a lot of character. This is where to go to see the old plantation-style storefronts from a Honolulu of a different era, and the stop for the best Filipino food and Portuguese bakeries on the island. We took these shots at two of the neighborhood’s most popular haunts: L&L Drive-In on Liliha Street and Tamashiro’s Market.
