My last post talked about visiting the Silom and Sukhumvit neighborhoods of Bangkok, but I didn’t mention the best part of my day in Silom: Thai cooking classes! I took my mother here as a gift, and we both had a blast.
Really, I cannot recommend the Silom Thai Cooking School enough. Run out of a beautiful apartment in the back streets of Silom, the Thai instructors are bubbly and energetic , explain things clearly, and make you feel like you can actually pull off an authentic Tom Kha soup. Or cashew chicken. Or mango sticky rice. We made 4 dishes in a few hours and when it all was delicious, I felt like the master. (And the fatty. You could have rolled us out of there.) Classes are offered 3 times a day, with a market tour included in the mornings and afternoons. Vegetarian options available. And when you can mortar-and-pestle your own homemade red curry paste, you’ll realize it’s the best 1,000 baht you’ve spent in Bangkok.
