Let me introduce myself: My name is IJfke and I have Jungle Fever. No, not the white on black variety, but the literal yearning for green leaves, damp fragrant air, and sunshine. I want less “concrete” and more “tropical” with my jungle. I want bikinis and slippers and neon colors and sexy tanned legs. I started this blog in 2011 when I first moved to New York City to pursue fashion photography. The Big Apple was not my thing, and if I couldn’t live elsewhere, at the least I’d settle for getting out of this massive city from time to time and write about my adventures.
This blog is my ode to far-flung locales and the fashionable, colorful, and interesting things they inspire. It’s provided me with a platform to share my travel photography, stories, and tips, and also with a place to gather the images and info that inspire me. While the tropics will always be my true love, this blog has expanded to include it all, for the world is large and I want to see it all! I hope you will be able to visit the exotic and adventurous locations featured, if only from the comfort of your desk chair.
I grew up in Kaneohe, on my beautiful island of Oahu in Hawai’i. Thinking of my home makes my heart swell from happiness, but unfortunately I don’t get to spend nearly as much time there as I’d like to. It has ruined me forever for living in places less than stunningly gorgeous. After spending the last few years island hopping from Hawaii to Curacao to Bali, I’m now based out of New York City but spending the year abroad in Oman, where I’m working on my portraiture. When I’m not pounding the pavement, my Dutch boyfriend Carsten and 2 pet goats keep me busy.
